Pickett Fire Update

The Pickett Fire has touched several of our preserves, and we remain in close coordination with CAL FIRE and community partners. Here is the latest update.

Impact on Land Trust Preserves

The Pickett Fire has burned portions of the Land Trust’s Duff Preserve, Wildlake Preserve, and part of the Aetna Springs Preserve, after starting on a property near Pickett Road and spreading across neighboring lands.

Containment: As of today, crews have reached 41% containment.

For safety, the Duff, Wildlake, and Aetna Springs Preserves will remain closed until further notice.

Partnerships and Response

Our team is working closely with CAL FIRE, Napa County Supervisors, and NapaFirewise to offer support and coordinate next steps.

We are grateful that our recent fuels reduction work and emergency access improvements on our preserve lands were utilized by CAL FIRE during suppression efforts and proved helpful in their response.

Yesterday, our Stewardship Director, Mike Palladini, joined Deputy Napa County Fire Chief JC Greenberg and Joe Nordlinger, CEO of Napa Firewise, at a CAL FIRE cooperator meeting to describe the four fuels treatment and emergency access projects the Land Trust has conducted within the Pickett Fire footprint.

Gratitude for Firefighters

We extend our deep gratitude to the firefighters and emergency personnel who are working tirelessly to protect lives, property, and the land. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected.

Next Steps

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and CAL FIRE will continue to provide official updates as more information becomes available. Our staff will also be in the field with CAL FIRE to assess impacts on the preserves in the coming days.

We remain committed to protecting these landscapes with our partners and community. We also hold hope for the future, knowing that nature is resilient and, as we’ve seen after past fires, renewal and regrowth will come.
