The Berkeley Seismology Lab (BSL), at UC Berkeley recently approached the Land Trust of Napa County (LTNC) to inquire about the installation of a monitoring station on a key property owned by LTNC. BSL conducts essential research on earthquakes and solid earth processes and has been adding stations to enhance their earthquake monitoring network. They recently conducted a survey and detected a key location at the Land Trust’s Archer Taylor Preserve on Mount Veeder where a new station would allow them to fill a gap in their data collection. LTNC was happy to support this scientific effort.

The new station will contribute to California’s Earthquake Early Warning efforts, also known as ShakeAlert®, which alerts people seconds to minutes before a strong earthquake occurs. Installation of the new device is scheduled to take place soon.
