Redwood Ramble

February 11: Redwood Ramble

Leaders: Elaine de Man & JoeJoe Clark
Rating: Easy, 2-4 miles, < 1k ft elevation gain

Who doesn’t love being encircled by a grove of redwood trees? And we think we know them. But do we really? On this easy ramble through the different groves of coast redwoods at the Archer Taylor Preserve, we will immerse ourselves in the fortifying energy of the forest and learn what makes these iconic trees so ever-lasting, fire resistant … and so tall.

We’ll see the aftermath of a fire that raged through the area a few years ago and witness the forest’s resilience. We’ll visit a few ancient trees that escaped the sawmill back in the day and we’ll learn about what might be living up in the canopy.

And perhaps most importantly, we’ll grow to understand the significant role these trees can play in our changing climate. We’ll finish up with a picnic in the redwood grove and take some time to slow down and appreciate the natural beauty all around us.
