Arcadia Vineyards I and II (2008) ~ Warren Winiarski/Arcadia Vineyard, LLC

19 and 40 acres of vineyards and natural lands adjacent to the Foote Botanical Preserve at Mt. George and Sarco Creek, east of the City of Napa.

Archer Taylor Preserve (1993, 1996, 1998, 2012 and 2015) ~ Ann Taylor Schwing, Charlie Schwing, Connie Taylor

This preserve encompasses 370 acres, including a century-old redwood forest in the Redwood Creek watershed west of Napa.

Alston Park

157 acres of recreational, open space land in the City of Napa’s northwest area; open to the public, including canine companions.

Aetna Springs Preserve (2020)

Completed with funding from CAL FIRE and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the 320 acres of undeveloped forest land includes the upper headwaters of a perennial stream, perennial springs and a wet meadow.

Audubon Cheyney Preserve (1992) ~ National Audubon Society

120 acres of open space and old-growth Douglas fir in the City of St. Helena’s Bell Canyon watershed open space.

Hans and Jennifer Baerwald (1994)

80 acres of open space and oak woodlands retaining a single residence in Pope Valley.

Bandettini (2004)

147 acres on Mt. St. Helena encompassing beautiful Douglas fir forests, a caretaker cabin, and a portion of the trail heading up to Mt. St. Helena. The property was transferred to Robert Louis Stevenson State Park in late 2006.

Joseph and Florence Barkley (1992)

451 acres forever-wild, grazing, and watershed lands in the Moore Creek watershed, a major tributary to Lake Hennessey.

Sandia P. Banks (2004)

20 acres of native grasslands and vernal pools on Atlas Peak next to Milliken Watershed.

Bruce and Martha Atwater (1997)

263 acres of open space, plantable vineyard, and forested watershed lands in the Mayacamas Range above Rutherford.

Beckstoffer Vineyard X (2002) ~ Andy & Betty Beckstoffer

The Vineyard X conservation easement protects 46 acres of vineyard land along Highway 29 south of St. Helena from ever being developed.

Bella Oaks (2007) ~ Cara Landry

64 acres of protected mixed hardwood forest in the western slopes of Oakville.

Bull Island (1997)

109-acre tidal marsh/wetland on the Napa River near Cuttings Wharf; transferred to the California Department of Fish and Game and the State Lands Commission.

Cakebread Cellars (1998) ~ Jack & Dolores Cakebread

10 planted vineyard acres and home in the western hills near Oakville.

Berryessa Vista (2008)

261 acres of oak forests, chaparral and grasslands on the shore of Lake Berryessa. Dr. Dwight and Jan Murray, Dr. Howard Way, Dr. Paul White donated 224 acres of this property in 2003 to the Land Trust. The property was transferred to the Napa County Regional Park and Open Space District for use as a public park/recreation area. The Land Trust retains a conservation easement.

Barrett Vineyards (2008) and Barrett II (2018) ~ Barrett Family Trust

Over 100 acres of oak savannah and grassland, with planted vineyards. Located at the north end of Napa Valley and adjacent to the Kimball Reservoir for the Town of Calistoga, the natural areas of this property are visible from Highway 128 and Petrified Forest Road.

Catacula Lake Winery/Bar 49 Ranch (2001) ~ Ed Keith

1,025 acres straddling Pope Chiles Valley Road that includes 100 acres of planted vineyard plus a winery. Several hundred acres of undisturbed blue and live oak woodland adjacent to the Land Trust’s Wantrup Preserve.

Carsi Vineyard (1999) ~ Dario Sattui, V. Sattui Winery

The Carsi Vineyard conservation easement restricts the development of a winery on the property, forever protecting 6.5 planted acres on Highway 29 south of Yountville.

Cedar Roughs (2015)

588 acres of oak woodland, grassy meadows and beautiful views across Lake Berryessa; connects Smittle Creek Day Use Recreational Area with the Cedar Roughs Wilderness Area; included the 160-acre in-holding lands to the Wilderness Area. Acquired by the Napa Open Space District in 2015, LTNC negotiated this deal after 20+ years.

Ralph H. Cechettini (1995, 1998)

A total of 42 acres adjoining the Carmelite Monastery, leading up the Oakville Grade.

Chiles Valley (2019, 2020)

1,031-acre preserve above Chiles Valley that provides a direct connection between the 6,300-acre Cedar Roughs Wilderness Area and three easements held by the Land Trust. Includes excellent examples of natural community types, including oak savannah and oak woodland as well as serpentine habitats.

Clyde Preserve (1979) ~ Dale Peters Clyde

40-acre Douglas Fir forest conveyed to Napa Valley College for environmental studies off of Dry Creek Road.

Carneros Creek (2003) ~ Andy & Betty Beckstoffer

44-acre Carneros Creek vineyard protecting the rural viewshed in Carneros.

Connolly Ranch (1991) ~ Peggy Connolly

A 12-acre urban farm adjoining Westwood Hills Park in Napa that houses environmental and agricultural educational programs for over 3,000 Napa students per year. In 2011, the property was leased to the nonprofit, Connolly Ranch Environmental Education program.

Creston Station Ranch (2002, 2003) ~ Thelma Batchelor, Jane & Peter Berton, Charles & Gwendolyn Halterman, Karen Rippey

570 acres of rangeland, open space along Jamieson Canyon Road, forever protecting this important scenic corridor from development.

di Rosa Art Preserve (1993) and Milliken Peak (1997) ~ Rene di Rosa

216 acres of open space in the Carneros District along Highway 12, including lake and wildlife habitat, allowing an extensive modern art collection housed in galleries and displayed outdoors. Includes all the lands of Milliken Peak (up to its summit) which face the City of Napa.

Dunlap (2003)

80 acres near the Foote Botanical Preserve at Mt. George, protecting native wildflowers, oak woodlands, and several tributary streams to Sarco Creek.

Circle R Ranch (2017) ~ Peter & Delanie Read

1,600 acres of mixed oak woodland habitat, in the Milliken Creek watershed, sandwiched between LTNC’s Mead Ranch and Sutro Ranch Preserve.

Duff Ranch (2008) ~ David Duff

1,040 pristine, forever wild acres abutting the Wildlake property. Funded by our Napa Valley Wild Campaign, this purchase of the Duff Ranch helped connect Wildlake Ranch with Robert Louis Stevenson State Park.

Dunn-Wildlake Ranch Preserve (2006) ~ Wildlake Ranch Hunting Club

3,030 acres of land encompassing stunning visual rocky outcrops, pine and Douglas fir forests, oak woodland, and chaparral with four miles of ridgeline in the Howell Mountain plateau between Calistoga and Angwin. Property includes headwaters of Bell Canyon Creek, the City of St. Helena’s water supply. Wildlake was purchased with money raised by the Land Trust’s Napa Valley Wild Campaign.

Eagle Rock (1981) ~ Mab Ashforth and Bo Goldman

260 acres of ridge forest and meadow on the uplands of Lake Hennessey, adjacent to the Moore
Creek Wilderness Park.

Eisele Family Estate (1991) ~ Volker & Liesel Eisele

432 acres of agricultural, open space, and watershed lands in Chiles Valley (with 60 acres planted to vineyard).

Erskine (2021)

A 24-acre conservation easement donated by Dr. John Erskine, the son of prominent Bay Area environmentalist Dorothy Erskine.

F. S. and June Foote (1990)

114 acres on the Silverado Trail east of Yountville which include 22 acres of planted vineyard and 92 acres of undisturbed, highly scenic, natural habitat.

Foote Botanical Preserve at Mt. George

767 acres of rare chaparral and wildflower species on Mt. George, the most prominent peak east of downtown Napa. Foote is the founding preserve of the Land Trust of Napa County, thanks to these donors:

Georges III (2006, 2007, 2009) ~ Andy & Betty Beckstoffer

Beckstoffer’s Georges III vineyard, spanning from the Silverado Trail to Conn Creek Road and Skellenger Lane, protects 181 acres of scenic and agriculturally productive land.

David & Nancy Garden (1991)

607 acres of steep, rugged forestland with pocket grasslands, as part of the Heath Creek watershed, west of St. Helena.

Carmelita French (1989)

43 acres of forested hills northwest of St. Helena.

Green & Red Vineyard (1993) ~ Jay & Pam Heminway

145 acres consisting of vineyards, winery and forever wild open space above the Chiles Valley.

Green Valley Ranch (1987) ~ Green Valley Ranch LLC

980 acres of oak woodland, open space and grazing lands, including 24 acres of planted vineyard, east of the City of Napa; the ranch spans the Napa-Solano County border and is adjacent to the City of Vallejo’s watershed lands below Lakes Madigan and Frey.

Grace St. Amand (1990)

60 acres on Dry Creek Road of open space and wildlife habitat.

Ghisletta Wetlands and Open Space (2000)

83 acres of wetlands and open space, transferred to the Napa County Flood Control District as a part of the South Napa Wetlands Area.

Gunn Ranch (2016, 2020) - Amy Gunn Edwards and Roger Gunn

Protecting 850 acres of active rangeland along the eastern shore of Lake Berryessa; adjacent to the Smitty Ranch CE, together being the first projects completed under the State of California’s new Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation Program (SALCP). LTNC partnered with the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and the California Department of Conservation (DOC) to preserve these agriculturally productive lands, which are also highly visible to recreational users at the Lake.

Grinsell Ranch Preserve (2020) - Grinsell Family

1,280-acre property identified as a high conservation priority in several large-scale planning efforts, including its key location within the North Bay’s highest priority wildlife corridor extending from the Marin coast across Sonoma and Napa to Berryessa. With 17 special status species documented there, the property ranks at the highest levels for priority biodiversity in the region.

Hangman (2018) ~ Keith Hangman

160-acre property next to Robert Louis Stevenson State Park that includes a portion of the Napa River headwaters. Protected thanks to the generous gift of the land from the estate of Keith Hangman, a long time Napa resident who passed away in 2016.

Duncan and Pat Haynes, Irene Haynes (1993)

22 acres forever-wild hillside viewshed on Highway 128 near Calistoga.

Heitz Wine Cellars (2002) ~ Kathleen Heitz-Myers

An 18-acre parcel near Angwin that serves as a buffer to the Land Trust’s Linda Falls Preserve while providing for the management of an existing 10-acre vineyard.

Heminway (2019) ~ Pam Heminway and family

Starting in the Chiles Valley and rising to the hills above, the property includes a portion of Chiles Creek and is in a key location within a priority wildlife corridor. This is the second conservation easement donation by the Heminway family.

Henry Ranch (2000 & 2001) ~ Dario Sattui, V. Sattui Winery

The historic Henry Ranch conservation easement forever preserves 528 acres of oak woodlands, grassland open space, planted vineyards (106 acres) and historic buildings along Carneros Creek and tributaries to Carneros Creek in the Carneros district. Three-quarters of this land will remain forever wild and undeveloped.

Haiku House (2007 )~ Suzanne Chambers Turley & Larry Turley

The Haiku House property protects 11 acres of the Turley Wine Cellars estate, north of St. Helena; includes approx. 1/4 mile of habitat along Mill Creek.

Homestake McLaughlin (2002) ~ Homestake Mining Company

Encompassing 6,125 acres across Napa, Lake, and Yolo Counties, this expansive property includes oak woodlands, serpentine meadow grasslands, serpentine chaparral and the Davis Creek Reservoir. The property is owned by Homestake Mining Co. as it undergoes mine reclamation for the largest gold producing mine in California, but managed as natural open space and ecological reserve by the UC Natural Reserve System.

Hopper Creek (2008) ~ Anonymous

67 acres in Napa County’s highly visible western hills, with Douglas fir and coast live oak forests and Hopper Creek running through.

Hunt's Grove Park (1998) - Marie Stabo

A half-acre parcel transferred to the City of St. Helena as a city pocket park on Hunt Avenue; eliminates the ability to construct a residence and preserves stately oak trees.

Hopper Creek II (2018) ~ Liz Moffitt

Originally part of the 11,000-acre Rancho Caymus land grant awarded to George Yount in 1836, this 76-acre property includes almost 70 acres of mixed hardwood-conifer forests.

Howarth (2021)

77 acres of undeveloped land above Lake Hennessey that ensures ongoing scenic views from the valley as well as significant habitat within an important wildlife corridor.

Henry (2011) - Jim & Nancy Henry and Gary Van Dam

40-acre preserve donation in the Cedar Valley; adjacent to Bureau of Land Management lands in the Knoxville area.

Iron Mine Stream (1984, 1985) ~ Michael & Alexandra Marston

220 acres of forever-wild lands overlooking the Napa Valley near St. Helena, including significant portions and tributaries to Sulphur Creek.

Rudin Johnson (1998)

200 acres of mixed hardwood-conifer forests in Dutch Henry Canyon; adjacent to Wildlake and Duff Ranches as part of the large, protected lands complex east of Calistoga.

Knoxville Ranch (2000) ~ Homestake Mining Company

8,078 acres of open space and wildlife habitat in the northeast corner of the County. Transferred from the Homestake Mining Company to the California Department of Fish and Game.

La Vigne (2005) ~ Shea Homes

44 acres of restored wetland adjacent to American Canyon Creek, with potential California red-legged frog habitat and open space upland, now owned by the City of American Canyon.

Kortum Canyon Vineyard (1991) ~ John & Fran Pershing

187 acres of scenic agricultural and open space land west of Calistoga, including 40 acres of planted vineyard.

Doug Ivey (2004)

9 acres of vernal pools and native grasses on Atlas Peak.

Lieff Wines (2008) ~ Robert and Gretchen Lieff

21 acres of forever wild and agricultural lands with planted vineyards and mixed hardwood forests in the eastern Napa Valley hills.

Landry (1985) ~ Cara Landry

Landry is 320 acres of protected habitat and scenic ridgeline with limited residential use atop the ridgeline south of the Oakville Grade and stretching into the Dry Creek valley.

Las Piedras (2015) ~ Andy & Betty Beckstoffer

The Las Piedras vineyard is a 25 acre historic property off Sulphur Springs Ave. in St. Helena that was first planted with grapes over 170 years ago.

Live Oaks (1995) ~ Anonymous

517 acres of ranch property with mixed oak woodland bridging Napa and Sonoma Counties; this property is now owned and managed by the Sonoma Land Trust.

Las Amigas (2007) ~ Andy & Betty Beckstoffer

A 58 acre conservation easement over the Las Amigas vineyard in the Carneros.

La Herradura Ranch (1983) ~ Ellen W. MacVeagh

A 363-acre open space with scattered oak woodlands and large expanses of grassland, currently grazed in Conn Valley.

Long Meadow Ranch (1997, 1999, 2000, 2009) ~ Ted and Laddie Hall

342 acres in three contiguous easements of forested hillside and open space west of Rutherford. Includes 10 acres of organic vineyards and olive groves plus an additional 48 acres of prime agricultural land on the Valley floor, in the Agricultural Preserve, in Rutherford.

Mahoney Family Vineyards (2009) - Francis & Kathleen Mahoney

19 acres of planted vineyards in the Carneros region, nearby Beckstoffer’s Carneros Creek and the di Rosa Milliken Peak properties.

Richard Merchant (2017)

55 acres of scenic, forested hillside along the Silverado Trail, south of Calistoga.

Montesol Ranch (2017)

The largest conservation easement project to date, this ranch encompasses 7,260 acres of working conifer and mixed hardwood forests, serpentine chaparral, annual grasslands with dozens of special status species and over 4 miles of prime riparian corridors; spanning Highway 29 and adjacent to Robert Louis Stevenson State Park.

Mead Ranch (1989) ~ Giles Mead

1,318 acres off of Atlas Peak Road in Napa, including endangered plant habitat and 30 planted acres of vineyard.

MXB (2020)

Two conservation easements protecting almost 200 acres near Mount Veeder, along the Napa-Sonoma county line. Contains the upper watershed for Redwood Creek and was identified as a region-wide conservation priority by the Bay Area Conservation Lands Network.

Linda Falls Preserve

A total 175 acres of scenic open space and riparian habitat near Angwin, forested with a mix of native Douglas Fir and mixed Manzanita chaparral. A conservation easement is held by the Napa Open Space District over the entire property. The following donors helped create the Linda Falls Preserve:

Napa Headwaters Preserve (2020)

This 519-acre property, acquired in 2020, abuts Robert Louis Stevenson State Park and protects the upper reaches of the Napa River as well as the watershed of Kimball Reservoir, the local water supply for the City of Calistoga.

Napa Ranch (2005)

12,275 acres of open space and wildlife habitat transferred to the California Department of Fish and Game for the Knoxville Wildlife Area. Assisted purchase from the Laufs family.

Monticello Ranch (2017) ~ Monticello Ranch LLC

At 4,461 acres, Monticello Ranch is one of the largest conservation easements ever for the Land Trust. Located on the east side of Lake Berryessa next to Berryessa Snow Mountain Monument and other protected lands.

The Jack and Bernice Newell Regional Open Space (1999) ~ Jack & Bernice Newell

642 acres of open space and wildlife habitat, including an important raptor migration resting area, in the hills east of American Canyon. The Newells donated the land to the City of American Canyon to create the Newell Open Space Preserve, now open for passive, public recreation.

Nellie G. Wright Estate (1994)

Now part of Bothe Napa Valley State Park, this parcel could have had a homesite; adjacent to Highway 29.

Nunyette Vineyard (2000) ~ Dale and Sue Missimer

45 acres along Napa River at Yountville Crossroad; 22 acres planted.

Missimer Snell Valley Wildflower Preserve (2003) ~ Dale and Sue Missimer

273 acres of this Snell Valley Preserve protects some of the most outstanding and rarest native wildflowers in Napa County.

Niebaum Coppola (1995) ~ Francis Ford and Eleanor Coppola

382 acres of near-pristine, undeveloped forest lands in the western hills near Oakville.

Olive House (2016) ~ Suzanne Chambers Turley & Larry Turley

The Olive House consists of 10 acres and includes a 100-year old olive grove as well as zinfandel and petite syrah vineyards.

Okin (2015)

110 acres donated by Robert Okin to preserve the unique confluence of vegetative habitat zones, including Douglas Fir forest, serpentine chaparral, and mixed hardwood forest; located in Chiles Valley and adjacent to Las Posada State Forest.

Pacific Union College Forest (2018) ~ Pacific Union College

864-acre forest protected in collaboration with CalFIRE. Abuts Las Posadas State Forest as well as an LTNC preserve, creating a continuous protected area of over 1,750 acres.

Jayson Pahlmeyer (2000)

57 acres of undeveloped chaparral open space near east of Milliken Reservoir.

Amalia Palmaz (2005)

32 acres of open space and wildlife habitat adjacent to the Foote Botanical Preserve at Mt. George.

Anita and Oliver Pearson (2001)

14 acres of natural habitat and municipal watershed protection land, adjacent to City of Napa owned Milliken Reservoir near Atlas Peak.

Noelle and Pete Peterson (1989)

42 acres of forested hills northwest of St. Helena.

Joseph Phelps Vineyards (1999) ~ Joseph Phelps

480 acres, including the Joseph Phelps winery, a historic schoolhouse, lake, and 300 acres of planted vineyard; fronts both the Silverado Trail and Conn Valley Road.

Pope Creek Preserve (2022)

Four neighboring properties protecting 1,066 acres that connect with lands owned by the State of California and managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, as well as federal land managed by the Bureau of Land Management and the Bureau of Reclamation. The properties include varied habitats, such as Blue Oaks, mixed hardwoods and grasslands and rare plant species, such as Jepson’s Leptosiphon and Two-carpellate Western Flax.

Quail Ridge Reserve (1986 – 2003) ~ Quail Ridge Wilderness Conservancy, UC Natural Reserve System

811 acres on 9 conservation easement parcels; consisting of pristine oak woodlands, chaparral, and native grasslands managed as a wilderness reserve and for ecological research and environmental education by the UC Natural Reserve System. Local partnership for conservation with the Quail Ridge Wilderness Conservancy, the UC Natural Reserve System, California Department of Fish and Game, Bureau of Land Management, and the Bureau of Reclamation.

Rattlesnake Ridge (2007) ~ Turley Wine Cellars Inc.

35 acres of vineyards and dense woodlands on the Howell Mountain ridgeline near Angwin, part of the Friesen Lakes, Conn and Putah Creek watersheds.

Ritchie Creek (2008) ~ Stuart Smith/Cook’s Flat Associates

Collaborative project with Save the Redwoods League to protect 62 acres of conifer and old growth redwood habitat. Adjacent to Bothe-Napa Valley State Park, this property also contains planted vineyards.

Robert Louis Stevenson State Park Additions (1981 – 2000)

Through a series of generous grants and donations (including Montesol–Livermore, Schwartz Canyon, Sutro-Surber, Patten-St. Helena Mine, and Conley), The Land Trust has played a key role in establishing the Palisades and Oat Hill Mine Trails as premier public hiking destinations through the acquisition and transfer of over 1,710 acres to the Robert Louis Stevenson State Park in Calistoga.

Rudd Estates (1997) ~ Leslie Rudd

54 acres, including 50 planted acres of the home vineyard and the winery, on the Oakville Cross Road.

Running Deer (2022)

A conservation easement protecting 1,416 acres on the east side of Lake Berryessa, ensuring the land can continue to be a working cattle ranch. Multiple intact habitat communities can be found here including oak savanna, extensive meadows, oak woodlands and mixed manzanita/chamise chaparral, as well as a number of seasonal streams. This project was significant in order to ensure ongoing wildlife corridors, connecting the 21,000-acre Knoxville Wildlife Area on its north to 30,000 protected acres on the south.

Sentinel Hill (2004) ~ Randy & Lori Dunn

64 acres of mature Douglas fir forest encompassing scenic Sentinel Hill in Angwin.

The Sharpsteen Family Trust (1996)

63 acres of Douglas fir and oak woodlands with residences and a hay meadow near Calistoga.

Silverado Vineyards - Mt. George Vineyard (1993) ~ Ron and Diane Miller

The Mt. George Vineyard is 167 total acres, with approx. 112 planted to vineyards, on the slopes of Mt. George east of Napa; contiguous with The Land Trust’s Foote Botanical Preserve at Mt. George.

Spanish Valley (2020) - Napa Open Space District

Conservation easement covering over 1,900 acres held by the Land Trust on property owned by the Open Space District. Besides extensive oak woodlands and chaparral, the property includes an unusually large open grassland within the area known as “Spanish Valley.” This large meadow includes a number of rare native species, including foothill yellow-legged frogs, several bird species and 17 rare plants such as Swamp Larkspur, which exists only in Napa and three other counties.

Silverado Vineyards - Disney Vineyard (1994) ~ Ron and Diane Miller

The Disney Vineyard covers 214 acres east of Yountville; 103 acres planted and 111 acres of open space bracketing the Silverado Trail with the Foote Conservation Easement.

Smitty Ranch (2016) - Pacific Livestock Inc.

Protecting 714 acres of active rangeland along the eastern shore of Lake Berryessa; adjacent to the Gunn Ranch CE, together being the first projects completed under the State of California’s new Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation Program (SALCP). LTNC partnered with the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and the California Department of Conservation (DOC) to preserve these agriculturally productive lands, which are also highly visible to recreational users at the Lake.

Sattui Kreuzer (2016) ~ Villa Amorosa, Inc.

40-acre property includes open space, scenic, agriculture and natural values near Skyline Wilderness Park.

Snell Valley Fernandes Addition

254 acres donated by Stella Fernandes preserves Snell Peak at the west end of Snell Valley, protecting native chaparral shrublands, with dozens of documented special status plant species, and wildlife habitat.

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars – S.L.V. Vineyard (1990), I, II, and III (2004) ~ Warren & Barbara Winiarski

SLV Vineyard was LTNC’s first vineyard conservation easement in Napa Valley; 46 acres of the world-renowned cabernet vineyards along the Silverado Trail. Spencer Conservation Easement (2020)

482 acres of undeveloped land almost completely surrounded by the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument and Bureau of Reclamation land around Lake Berryessa. The Land Trust purchased the property, retained a conservation easement over it and then turned ownership of the land over to UC Natural Reserves for long-term ownership and management as an addition to its Stebbins Cold Canyon Natural Reserve, which is now more than 1,100 acres.

Spring Mountain (2009) ~ Carroll & Christina Ballard

58 acres atop Spring Mountain, spanning both Napa and Sonoma Counties, protects agriculturally productive land and relatively undisturbed stands of mixed hardwood/conifer forests along with headwaters for Santa Rosa Creek.

Sulu Canyon (2007) ~ Chamberlain family

49 acres of mixed Manzanita chaparral and oak woodland riparian habitat along Dry Creek Road.

Sutro Ranch (2014) ~ Elizabeth "Betty" Sutro

The 1,380 acre preserve located at the end of Atlas Peak Road is the second largest preserve in the Land Trust. The four miles of undeveloped ridgeline includes Atlas Peak (Elev. 2,663 ft.), which can be seen from many points in Napa County. Varying topography and elevation, a combination of riparian and wetland areas, and mixed soil types and geology, contribute to the property’s high biodiversity ranking.

528 acres of undeveloped forestlands and open space in the hills east of Calistoga, just below the Palisades Trail. California Dept. of State Parks purchased the conservation easement and manages the property as part of Robert Louis Stevenson State Park.

Stanly Ranch Wetlands (2004)

261 acres of wetlands that have been threatened with homesite development numerous times over the last 20 years. These lands are now permanently protected through California Department of Fish and Wildlife, who will restore these lands to wetland wildlife habitat.

Marguerite Thomas Trust (2001)

31 acres of scenic open space and native oak woodlands on Silverado Trail north of Yountville.

Conservation easements cover the historic To Kalon vineyard along Highway 29 in Oakville, preserving 90 acres as forever agriculture.

Todd Ranch (2008)

The Land Trust assisted in the sale of 738 acres of open space and wildlife habitat to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife as the third addition to the Knoxville Wildlife Area.

Trancas Crossing Park (2001) - John & Linda Miller

Located in north Napa, Johnny Miller, renowned golfer, donated a conservation easement on this 33-acre property initially.  Miller then transferred the remaining interest the LTNC, who subsequently transferred ownership to the City of Napa, for use as a future, open space park.  The new Trancas Crossing Park opened in September of 2011 and is a beautiful urban oasis for bikers, runners and dog walkers alike, as well as the northern terminus for the Napa River Trail and Napa River boat launch.

94 acres of a historic working vineyard in the middle of the valley floor of the Oak Knoll District south of Yountville.

Located at the northern end of Lake Berryessa, this 488-acre property of undeveloped land connects with other protected lands, and creates new recreational opportunities for youth and children via the Napa Open Space District’s EcoCamp Berryessa.

Wragg Ridge Preserve (2018)

1,910-acre preserve near previously protected land at Lake Berryessa that extends along a high ridge – Wragg Ridge – and is dominated by extensive oak woodlands. Also contains priority wetlands that provide habitat for the federally-listed California Red-legged Frog, a rare species.

The Vineyard X Conservation Easement Protects 46 acres of vineyard land along Highway 29 south of St. Helena from ever being developed. The following year, Andy added another conservation easement on his 44-acre Carneros Creek vineyard on Dealy Road, further protecting the rural viewshed of the Carneros. He also completed a conservation easement over the Las Amigas vineyard in the Carneros, on 58 acres. Beckstoffer’s Georges III vineyard, spanning from the Silverado Trail to Conn Creek Road and Skellenger Lane, protects 181 acres of scenic and agriculturally productive land. Conservation easements cover the historic To Kalon vineyard along Highway 29 in Oakville, preserving 90 acres as forever agriculture. The Las Piedras vineyard is a 25 acre historic property off Sulphur Springs Ave. in St. Helena that was first planted with grapes over 170 years ago.

Berryessa Vista (2008)

261 acres of oak forests, chaparral and grasslands on the shore of Lake Berryessa. Dr. Dwight and Jan Murray, Dr. Howard Way, Dr. Paul White donated 224 acres of this property in 2003 to the Land Trust. The property was transferred to the Napa County Regional Park and Open Space District for use as a public park/recreation area. The Land Trust retains a conservation easement.

 

Boggs Mountain (1980) ~ Carol & Oscar Hills

206 acres of steep and rugged conifer forest with habitat portion of Big Canyon Creek, adjacent to Boggs Mountain State Demonstration Forest in Lake County. This was one of the very first projects the Land Trust completed in its history and the first easement in Lake County.

588 acres of oak woodland, grassy meadows and beautiful views across Lake Berryessa; connects Smittle Creek Day Use Recreational Area with the Cedar Roughs Wilderness Area; included the 160-acre in-holding lands to the Wilderness Area. Acquired by the Napa Open Space District in 2015, LTNC negotiated this deal after 20+ years.

Chiles Valley (2019, 2020)

1,151-acre preserve above Chiles Valley that provides a direct connection between the 6,300-acre Cedar Roughs Wilderness Area and three easements held by the Land Trust. Includes excellent examples of natural community types, including oak savannah and oak woodland as well as serpentine habitats.

Protecting 6,224 acres of active rangeland along the eastern shore of Lake Berryessa; adjacent to the Smitty Ranch CE, together being the first projects completed under the State of California’s new Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation Program (SALCP). LTNC partnered with the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and the California Department of Conservation (DOC) to preserve these agriculturally productive lands, which are also highly visible to recreational users at the Lake.

Monticello Ranch (2017) ~ Monticello Ranch LLC

At 4,461 acres, Monticello Ranch is one of the largest conservation easements ever for the Land Trust. Located on the east side of Lake Berryessa next to Berryessa Snow Mountain Monument and other protected lands.

 

MXB (2020)

Two conservation easements protecting almost 200 acres near Mount Veeder, along the Napa-Sonoma county line. Contains the upper watershed for Redwood Creek and was identified as a region-wide conservation priority by the Bay Area Conservation Lands Network.

 

Napa Headwaters Preserve (2020)

This 519-acre property, acquired in 2020, abuts Robert Louis Stevenson State Park and protects the upper reaches of the Napa River as well as the watershed of Kimball Reservoir, the local water supply for the City of Calistoga.

 

Napa Ranch (2005)

12,275 acres of open space and wildlife habitat transferred to the California Department of Fish and Game for the Knoxville Wildlife Area. Assisted purchase from the Laufs family.

Pope Creek Preserve (2022)

Four neighboring properties protecting 1,066 acres that connect with lands owned by the State of California and managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, as well as federal land managed by the Bureau of Land Management and the Bureau of Reclamation. The properties include varied habitats, such as Blue Oaks, mixed hardwoods and grasslands and rare plant species, such as Jepson’s Leptosiphon and Two-carpellate Western Flax.

Quail Ridge Reserve (1986 – 2003) ~ Quail Ridge Wilderness Conservancy, UC Natural Reserve System

811 acres on 9 conservation easement parcels; consisting of pristine oak woodlands, chaparral, and native grasslands managed as a wilderness reserve and for ecological research and environmental education by the UC Natural Reserve System. Local partnership for conservation with the Quail Ridge Wilderness Conservancy, the UC Natural Reserve System, California Department of Fish and Game, Bureau of Land Management, and the Bureau of Reclamation.

 

Rattlesnake Ridge (2007), Haiku House (2007) and Olive House (2016) ~ Turley Wine Cellars, Inc. and Suzanne Chambers Turley & Larry Turley

35 acres of vineyards and dense woodlands on the Howell Mountain ridgeline near Angwin, part of the Friesen Lakes, Conn and Putah Creeks watersheds. The Haiku and Olive House properties protect 21 acres of the Turley Wine Cellars estate, north of St. Helena; includes approx. ¼ mile of habitat along Mill Creek and a 100-year-old olive grove, amidst the vineyards.

Redwood Meadows (1997) ~ Johanna and Hans Burkhardt

73 acres of forested open space that allows for sustainable harvest of redwood and Douglas fir; located off the Skunk Train line in Mendocino County.

 

Ritchie Creek (2008) ~ Stuart Smith/Cook’s Flat Associates

Collaborative project with Save the Redwoods League to protect 62 acres of conifer and old growth redwood habitat; adjacent to Bothe-Napa Valley State Park, this property also contains planted vineyards.

Robert Louis Stevenson State Park Additions (1981 – 2000)

Through a series of generous grants and donations (including Montesol–Livermore, Schwartz Canyon, Sutro-Surber, Patten-St. Helena Mine, and Conley), The Land Trust has played a key role in establishing the Palisades and Oat Hill Mine Trails as premier public hiking destinations through the acquisition and transfer of over 1,710 acres to the Robert Louis Stevenson State Park in Calistoga.

 

Rudd Estates (1997) ~ Leslie Rudd

54 acres, including 50 planted acres of the home vineyard and the winery, on the Oakville Cross Road.

 

Running Deer (2022)

A conservation easement protecting 1,416 acres on the east side of Lake Berryessa, ensuring the land can continue to be a working cattle ranch. Multiple intact habitat communities can be found here including oak savanna, extensive meadows, oak woodlands and mixed manzanita/chamise chaparral, as well as a number of seasonal streams. This project was significant in order to ensure ongoing wildlife corridors, connecting the 21,000-acre Knoxville Wildlife Area on its north to 30,000 protected acres on the south.

Sattui Kreuzer (2016) ~ Villa Amorosa, Inc.

40-acre property includes open space, scenic, agriculture and natural values near Skyline Wilderness Park.

 

Sattui Winery – Carsi Vineyard (1999), Henry Ranch (2000 & 2001), and Vittorio’s Vineyard (2006) ~ Dario Sattui

The Carsi Vineyard conservation easement restricts the development of a winery on the property, forever protecting 6.5 planted acres on Highway 29 south of Yountville. The historic Henry Ranch conservation easement forever preserves 528 acres of oak woodlands, grassland open space, planted vineyards (106 acres) and historic buildings along Carneros Creek and tributaries to Carneros Creek in the Carneros district. Three-quarters of this land will remain forever wild and undeveloped. Vittorio’s Vineyard, named for Sattui’s grandfather, protects 15 acres of the estate-planted vineyards, adjacent to Highway 29 at the southern end of St. Helena.

64 acres of mature Douglas fir forest encompassing scenic Sentinel Hill in Angwin.

 

The Sharpsteen Family Trust (1996)

63 acres of Douglas fir and oak woodlands with residences and a hay meadow near Calistoga.

 

Silverado Vineyards: Mt. George Vineyard (1993) and Disney Vineyard (1994) ~ Ron and Diane Miller

The Mt. George Vineyard is 167 total acres, with approx. 112 planted to vineyards, on the slopes of Mt. George east of Napa; contiguous with The Land Trust’s Foote Botanical Preserve at Mt. George. The Disney Vineyard covers 214 acres east of Yountville; 103 acres planted and 111 acres of open space bracketing the Silverado Trail with  the Foote Conservation Easement.

Smitty Ranch (2016) – Pacific Livestock Inc.

Protecting 714 acres of active rangeland along the eastern shore of Lake Berryessa; adjacent to the Gunn Ranch CE, together being the first projects completed under the State of California’s new Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation Program (SALCP). LTNC partnered with the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and the California Department of Conservation (DOC) to preserve these agriculturally productive lands, which are also highly visible to recreational users at the Lake.

 

Snell Valley Fernades Addition

254 acres donated by Stella Fernandes preserves Snell Peak at the west end of Snell Valley, protecting native chaparral shrublands, with dozens of documented special status plant species, and wildlife habitat.

 

Spanish Valley (2020) – Napa Open Space District 

Conservation easement covering over 1,900 acres held by the Land Trust on property owned by the Open Space District. Besides extensive oak woodlands and chaparral, the property includes an unusually large open grassland within the area known as “Spanish Valley.” This large meadow includes a number of rare native species, including foothill yellow-legged frogs, several bird species and 17 rare plants such as Swamp Larkspur, which exists only in Napa and three other counties. 

 

Spencer Conservation Easement (2020) 

482 acres of undeveloped land almost completely surrounded by the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument and Bureau of Reclamation land around Lake Berryessa. The Land Trust purchased the property, retained a conservation easement over it and then turned ownership of the land over to UC Natural Reserves for long-term ownership and management as an addition to its Stebbins Cold Canyon Natural Reserve, which is now more than 1,100 acres.

 

Spring Mountain (2009) ~ Carroll & Christina Ballard

58 acres atop Spring Mountain, spanning both Napa and Sonoma Counties, protects agriculturally productive land and relatively undisturbed stands of mixed hardwood/conifer forests along with headwaters for Santa Rosa Creek

 

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars – S.L.V. Vineyard (1990), I, II, and III (2004) ~ Warren & Barbara Winiarski

SLV Vineyard was LTNC’s first vineyard conservation easement in Napa Valley; 46 acres of the world-renowned cabernet vineyards along the Silverado Trail. The three hillside parcels (I, II, and III), totaling 89 acres, eliminated three residences from the scenic viewshed at the base of the Stag’s Leap rock formations.

Stanly Ranch Wetlands (2004)

261 acres of wetlands that have been threatened with homesite development numerous times over the last 20 years. These lands are now permanently protected through California Department of Fish and Wildlife, who will restore these lands to wetland wildlife habitat.

 

Sulu Canyon (2007) ~ Chamberlain family

49 acres of mixed Manzanita chaparral and oak woodland riparian habitat along Dry Creek Road.

 

Sutro Ranch (2014) ~ Elizabeth “Betty” Sutro

The 1,380 acre preserve located at the end of Atlas Peak Road is the second largest preserve in the Land Trust. The four miles of undeveloped ridgeline includes Atlas Peak (Elev. 2,663 ft.), which can be seen from many points in Napa County. Varying topography and elevation, a combination of riparian and wetland areas, and mixed soil types and geology, contribute to the property’s high biodiversity ranking.

528 acres of undeveloped forestlands and open space in the hills east of Calistoga, just below the Palisades Trail. California Dept. of State Parks purchased the conservation easement and manages the property as part of Robert Louis Stevenson State Park.

31 acres of scenic open space and native oak woodlands on Silverado Trail north of Yountville.

 

Todd Ranch (2008)

The Land Trust assisted in the sale of 738 acres of open space and wildlife habitat to the California Department of Fish and Game as the third addition to the Knoxville Wildlife Area.

Trancas Crossing Park (2001) – John & Linda Miller

Located in north Napa, Johnny Miller, renowned golfer, donated a conservation easement on this 33-acre property initially.  Miller then transferred the remaining interest the LTNC, who subsequently transferred ownership to the City of Napa, for use as a future, open space park.  The new Trancas Crossing Park opened in September of 2011 and is a beautiful urban oasis for bikers, runners and dog walkers alike, as well as the northern terminus for the Napa River Trail and Napa River boat launch.

94 acres of a historic working vineyard in the middle of the valley floor of the Oak Knoll District south of Yountville.

Tuteur Ranch (1980, 1985, 1986) ~ The Tuteur Family

Over 300 acres of open grasslands, primarily used for grazing, encompassing the scenic ridgetops near Skyline Park and the Napa Valley; a one-mile segment of the Bay Area Ridge Trail (accessible from Skyline Park) loops through the property.

 

Upper Range (2014) – Rodgers Land & Development Co.

Approx. 667 acres of oak woodlands, chaparral and new vineyards east of the Silverado Trail; adjacent to the City of Napa’s Lake Hennessey watershed lands and highly visible to all travelers up and down Napa Valley.

Barry and Beverly Wendel Preserve (2019, 2021)

Located at the northern end of Lake Berryessa, this 488-acre property of undeveloped land connects with other protected lands, and creates new recreational opportunities for youth and children via the Napa Open Space District’s EcoCamp Berryessa.

 

White Slough Marsh (1979)

38-acre tidal marsh now part of the Department of Fish and Wildlife’s wetlands program on upper San Pablo Bay.

 

Wragg Ridge Preserve (2018, 2021)

1,950-acre preserve near previously protected land at Lake Berryessa that extends along a high ridge – Wragg Ridge – and is dominated by extensive oak woodlands. Also contains priority wetlands that provide habitat for the federally-listed California Red-legged Frog, a rare species.
