July 4th Moonwalk on Wildlake

July 4: July 4th Moonwalk on Wildlake

Leader: Randy Fisher
Rating: Moderate, 5.5 miles

The moonrise and sunset events are very close together on this special date which will allow for some interesting photo opportunities while the landscape remains well-lit as the full moon rises.

The sunset will be almost directly over Mt. St. Helena from our vantage point on Old Baldy. Since it is the 4th of July, if we wait a while, we should be able to see fireworks in a couple of different directions.

A penumbral lunar eclipse is also happening, which will just slightly affect the brightness of the moon. It might be interesting to see the dimming that normally would never be noticed. Bring headlamps and prepare to hike in darkness on loose rocky surfaces.
