Wantrup Wildlife Sanctuary

This Preserve has 730 acres of oak savannah, oak woodlands and migratory bird habitat located in Pope Valley. The property was conveyed to the Land Trust by Professor Siegfried von Ciriacy-Wantrup in 1982 and has the best example of oak savannah habitat in the Land Trust’s permanently held lands. In areas where cattle were removed, valley and blue oaks are interspersed with native grasses, wildflowers and shrubs.

C. EMERY DAMERON, Trustee

Emery Dameron is a retired business executive with over 30 years experience in the healthcare industry. Emery’s experience is extensive, having held positions with United Health Care as Chief Executive Officer of United’s Pacific Region and Executive Vice President and Operating Officer of United Behavioral Health. As CEO of the Pacific Region Emery was responsible for operational and financial control of United’s Insurance and HMO operations in California, Washington, Oregon, and Nevada. At United Behavioral Health Emery was responsible for operational control of United’s national behavioral health organization serving nearly 40 million members. Other related managed care experience includes developing and managing programs for several national HMO and insurance companies. Emery education is as a Pharmacist with undergraduate studies at Northeast Louisiana University and graduate studies and residency at Medical College of Virginia. Emery is an avid outdoorsman whose adventures include numerous mountaineering expeditions to the Himalaya’s of Nepal and the Cordillera Blanca range of the Peruvian Andes. He has also climbed extensively in the Sierra Nevada range of California, the Rockies of Canada and America, and the French and Swiss Alps.
