Wantrup Wildlife Sanctuary

This Preserve has 730 acres of oak savannah, oak woodlands and migratory bird habitat located in Pope Valley. The property was conveyed to the Land Trust by Professor Siegfried von Ciriacy-Wantrup in 1982 and has the best example of oak savannah habitat in the Land Trust’s permanently held lands. In areas where cattle were removed, valley and blue oaks are interspersed with native grasses, wildflowers and shrubs.

We marvel over the hills and valleys with amazing views within the extraordinarily scenic Bay Area. We love the unique geographic juxtaposition that makes this a hot spot of biodiversity. Back in 1976, community members recognized that these qualities were important enough to protect; today, we strive to continue those land conservation efforts that preserve agriculture, scenic open space and biodiversity.
