Wantrup Wildlife Sanctuary

This Preserve has 730 acres of oak savannah, oak woodlands and migratory bird habitat located in Pope Valley. The property was conveyed to the Land Trust by Professor Siegfried von Ciriacy-Wantrup in 1982 and has the best example of oak savannah habitat in the Land Trust’s permanently held lands. In areas where cattle were removed, valley and blue oaks are interspersed with native grasses, wildflowers and shrubs.

The Land Trust’s Field Trip program allows our members and the greater North Bay community to experience first-hand the importance of permanently protecting farmland, water resources, vistas, recreational areas, and wildlife corridors in Napa County. In fact, for this edition of our Field Trip Guide, we have selected unique properties that exemplify these treasured areas. We hope you enjoy the many hikes, educational walks and occasional kayaking experiences! Everyone is welcome on Land Trust hikes, with the exception of special events for our members and supporters only (denoted as **). Space is limited; sign up early. Registration closes three (3) days prior to the event at 2PM PDT.
