Protected by Conservation Easements


The Land Trust has placed conservation easements on over 20,000 acres, including agricultural and agriculture-related land on nearly 10,000 acres.

 

Green Valley Ranch (1987) — The Green Valley Ranch Partners (Richard Reisman et al.). 980 acres of open space, grazing lands and vineyard overlooking the City of Napa and southern Napa Valley.

 

Mead Ranch (1989) —Giles Mead
1,318 acres off of Atlas Peak Road in Napa, including endangered plant habitat and 30 planted acres of vineyard (60 acres plantable).

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars/SLV Vineyard (1990) and Stag's Leap Wine Cellers Vineyards (2004) — Warren & Barbara Winiarski. The SLV Vineyards conservation easement encompasses 41 acres (of 46 total plantable) of world-renowned Cabernet vineyards on the Silverado Trail east of Yountville. In 2004, the Winiarski’s eliminated 3 home and winery sites from 3 parcels for a total of 89 protected acres on the wild and scenic hillsides overlooking the Silverado Trail.

F. S. and June Foote (1991)
114 acres on the Silverado Trail near Yountville, including 22 acres of vineyard and 92 acres of undisturbed natural habitat.

Kortum Canyon Vineyard (1991) — John & Fran Pershing
187 acres of scenic, agricultural and open space land above Calistoga.

Eisele Family Estates (1991) — Volker and Liesel Eisele
432 acres of agricultural open space and watershed in Chiles Valley (60 acres in vineyard).

Green & Red Vineyard (1993) — Jay & Pam Heminway
146 acres vineyard, winery and forever-wild open space in lower Chiles Valley.

di Rosa Art Preserve (1993) and Milliken Peak (1997) — Rene di Rosa
216 acres of open space and agricultural land, including an extensive modern art collection housed in galleries, lake and wildlife habitat, and Milliken Peak in the Carneros District .

Silverado Vineyards/Mt. George Vineyard (1993) and Disney Vineyard (1994) — Ron and Diane Miller. The Mt. George Vineyard encompasses 167-acres on the slopes of Mt. George east of downtown Napa, contiguous with the Foote Botanical Preserve at Mt. George. The Disney Vineyards include 103 planted acres and 99 acres of open space off of the Silverado Trail, just south of Yountville along the Napa River.

Atwater Agricultural Preserve (1997) — Bruce and Martha Atwater
263 acres of open space, including plantable vineyard and forested watershed lands.

Long Meadow Ranch (1997, 1999, 2005) — Ted & Laddie Hall
242 acres of forested hillside and open space west of Rutherford. Includes 10 acres of organic vineyards and olive groves. An additional 94 acres of contiguous land protected in 2005.

Girard Winery/Rudd Estate (1997) — Leslie Rudd
54 acres, including the winery and 50 planted acres in the Agricultural Preserve near Oakville.

Cakebread (1998) — Jack & Dolores Cakebread
10 acres of vineyard in the Agricultural Preserve in the middle of the Napa Valley.

Joseph Phelps Vineyards/Stone Bridge Cellars (1999) — Joseph Phelps
480 acres of vineyard, forests, and open space, including a winery, a historic schoolhouse, and the 130-acre home vineyard of Joseph Phelps Winery in Spring Valley east of St. Helena.

V. Sattui Winery/Carsi Vineyard (1999), Henry Ranch (2000 & 2001) and Vittorio's Vineward (2006) — Daryl Sattui. The Carsi Vineyard conservation easement restricts the development of a winery on the property, forever protecting 6.5 planted acres on Highway 29 south of Yountville. The historic Henry Ranch conservation easement forever preserves 528 acres of oak woodlands, grassland open space, planted vineyards and historic buildings along Carneros Creek and tributaries to Carneros Creek in the Carneros district. Three-quarters of this land will remain forever wild and undeveloped. Vittorio’s Vineyard easement protects 15 acres of vineyards on the east side of Highway 29 just southeast of V. Sattui Winery in the Agricultural Preserve.

Nunyette Vineyard (2000) — Dale and Sue Missimer
45 acres of vineyard (22 planted) and riparian forest along the Napa River in the Agricultural Preserve near Yountville, 22 acres planted.

Bar 49 Ranch/Catacula Lake Winery (2001) — Ed Keith
1,025 acres of oak woodland habitat including 100 acres of planted vineyard and Catacula Lake Winery. The property, adjacent to the Wantrup Wildlife Sanctuary, will remain as predominantly natural open space with cattle grazing.

Heitz Wine Cellars (2002) — Kathleen Heitz-Myers
42 acres near Angwin next to Linda Falls, protecting riparian habitat along Conn Creek while allowing for a 10-acre vineyard.

Beckstoffer Vineyard X (2002), Carneros Creek Vineyard (2003), Georges III and To Kalon Vineyards (2006) — Andy Beckstoffer
The Vineyard X conservation easement protects 46 acres of vineyard land in the Agricultural Preserve along Highway 29 north of Yountville from ever being developed. The second easement on his 44-acre Carneros Creek Vineyard on Dealy Road, further protects the rural viewshed of the Carneros region. Georges ILI easement is 48 acres of vineyard northeast of Oakville off Silverado Trail. The famous To Kalon Vineyard easement consists of 45 acres located off Highway 29 in Oakville. Georges and To Kalon are also in the Agricultural Preserve.

John Pappas (2006)
10 acres at the northeast edge of the City of Napa, planted in grapevines.

Staglin (2006) — Garen and Shari Staglin
10 acres located in the Agricultural Preserve in Rutherford. The property includes vineyards and oak woodlands.

di Rosa Art Preserve (1993) — Rene di Rosa
52 acres of open space containing extensive modern art collection and natural habitat in the Carneros region southwest of Napa.

Niebaum Coppola Conservation Easement (1995) — Francis Ford & Eleanor Coppola
382 acres of forested open space in the western hills near Oakville.

Pahlmeyer Winery (2000) — Jason Pahlmeyer
57 acres of forever-wild open space lands adjacent to Milliken Reservoir and vineyard lands.
